Beam arm

Steffy: A curved partial beam whose inboard end was scarfed or tenoned into the side of a deck beam and outboard end terminated at the shelf clamp. Beam arms were used to reinforce potentially weak areas adjacent to hatches, bitts, masts, etc. They were essentially long knees laid as half beams.
