New page

[[category: Ships]]

This privateer was excavated in the Penobscot River during a series of summer schools run jointly by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and the Maine Maritime Academy. Among the interior features were a brick galley stove with copper cauldron, a bilge pump pipe and well, a shot locker, and stumps of the fore and main masts.
The framing plan is curious. Most frames appear to be single floors, perhaps alternating with single first futtocks as in the Boscawen. However, there are several composite frames (whose timbers are joined with treenails) as well. These may be the only standing frames. Unfortunately, since most of the ceiling was not removed, the complete framing plan remains to be documented.1
