Marsala Punic (ca. 240 BCE)
This galley was excavated near Marsala, Sicily, in an area where a Punic War battle raged in 241 BC. It was dated to the mid-3rd century BC based on C14 analysis, pottery, and Punic alphabetic signs on the hull timbers. Only about ten percent of the hull survived and was limited to the after port side and scattered starboard fragments. The timbers have been conserved and are on display in Marsala.1
