Nemi Barges (ca. 40)

Nemi 1 and 2. Both hulls were located beneath inland Lake Nemi in Italy; both were destroyed during World War II. Many hull details are missing from Ucelli’s publication; ceiling thicknesses were interpreted from 1955 drawings. Keels were sided less at their bottom surfaces. There were two sister keels on each side of each hull. Foerster (IJNA; 1985) describes the bilge pumps. There were large deck structures surviving on the smaller hull (#2). Both hulls were completely sheathed in lead, the last Mediterranean hulls so described. 1
