Chair: Bass

During the summer of 1979, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) in conjunction with Texas A&M University undertook a survey of the anchorage at Serce Liman, Turkey. During the course of this survey approximately 300 artifacts were raised. These have been variously dated from 3000 B.C. to the 13th century A.D. The anchorage sites was thus in use for a period of some 4300 years according to the archaeological remains. The frequency of use and the nationalities of the users vary with time and reflect the maritime history of each period.
