The Granado Cave project was funded by the Texas Historical Commission and the Texas Historical Foundation; additional funding was provided by J.O. Hayhurst. The discoverer of the cave, Mr. Frank Granado of Pecos, Texas, lent artifacts recovered from the caves for analysis. The late Mr. Shelby Brooks, on whose property the cave was located, gave permission for the excavations. The 1978 fieldwork was undertaken by Dr. Hamilton with the assistance of Charles E. Locke, Ray Kenmotsu, Michael Mallouf and Margaret L. Kluge.
