J. Richard Steffy Scholarship Fund
In honor of Texas A&M University Professor Emeritus and MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant" recipient, J. Richard “Dick” Steffy (1924-2007), a scholarship has been established for graduate students enrolled in the Nautical Archaeology Program at TAMU.
Mr. Steffy was one of the founding members of NAP in 1976 and retired in 1990 after a distinguished career of ship reconstruction from hull remains. Probably best known for his extensive and pioneering work with the interpretation and reconstruction of the Kyrenia merchant ship remains, Dick also contributed significantly to numerous other high-profile projects including the Sea of Galilee boat, the Athlit ram, and the Herculaneum boat, to name just a few.
Former students, friends of INA, and colleagues are encouraged to contribute to the endowment to fund a scholarship for up and coming nautical archaeologists in the name of one of the pioneers in the in-depth understanding of ancient ship construction. Please contact the INA office at +01(979) 845-6694 or through email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
