Christopher Sabick

Executive Director, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum

M.A. (2005)

“The Nautical Archaeology Program provided me with the skills, knowledge and connections to become a successful career archaeologist and now museum director. Working with the amazing faculty of the NAP exposed me to new ways of thinking and learning and encouraged me to push my skills in writing, researching, and public speaking, all of which have proven invaluable in my career. Whether it was absorbing the detailed editorial notes on my writing from Dr. Kevin Crisman, learning new conservation skills from Dr. Donny Hamilton, or learning how to draft a “ship-like” vessel from Dr. Fred Hocker, the skills and abilities gained through study in the NAP have become the pillars on which I’ve built a career.

In addition to the skills acquired while attending the NAP, I was also connected to a broad array of other researchers, divers, and archaeological professionals who provided me with exceptional experiences and opportunities for advancement. Networking is an important component in any successful career in archaeology and the NAP provided an access point to numerous valuable connections across the country and around the world.”
