Bio

Dr. Katie Custer Bojakowski is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Nautical Archaeology Program. She serves as the Director and Curator of the Anthropology Research Collection, the Director of the Museum Studies Minor, and the Museum Studies Internship Coordinator. Dr. Custer Bojakowski has directed and collaborated on many nautical archaeology projects. Her doctoral research focused on the iconographic analysis of 15-17th century Iberian ships: the Caravel, Galleon, and Nau. She co-directed the excavation of Warwick and documented the 19th-century Pacific Schooner Equator using archaeological recording and advanced technologies like drone photogrammetry and LiDAR. Her current research includes the excavation of the Cape Ratac Wreck in Croatia, a 17th-century shipwreck with Venetian glass cargo. Dr. Custer Bojakowski also conducts research as part of the Anthropology Research Collection. She is currently directing research on Collections Management Perspectives on Coprolite Collections. Additionally, she has ongoing research on Collections Management of Archaeological Soil and Geological Samples. This study from the Anthropology Research Collection details how reducing and deaccessioning excess soil, sediment, and geological samples can optimize storage, improve sample care, and enhance collections management efficiency.
